Week 15

This week is our upside down week.  Thank you very much everyone for being flexible and going through the day with big smiles in our faces. So, my blog is also upside down this week.

Fine Arts
We learned a little bit about Georgia O'Keeffe. And we did wonderful artwork.  Thank you Mrs. Thornton for sharing and teaching us how to do the project.  Next time, please continue to bring your coloring materials.  We are likely to use water color. Thank you.

New Grammar
Timeline: Song - CC CD
We sang through the song a few times doing the hand motions taught during the opening ceremony.  Do review the timeline with them at home. They knew the past two week's memory work and gets a little confused with this week's. This is the part in our timeline that gets confusing, so work with them.

History: Song - CC CD
I gave them a brief summary of how the Roosevelt and his rough riders helped Cuba.  They had lots of questions and it is making the discussion a lot more interesting but I was running out of answers... hahaha!  I am so glad that the sentences are making them think.  Thank you for the parents who jumped in to help answer some of the questions.  We sang through the song a lot of times and did the following hand motions.
 Roosevelt - right R-hand
Rough riders - pretend to be riding a horse
Spanish - both index fingers touch shoulders and move around to the front of the chest
hill - outline a hill with your right hand
help - lift up a right A-hand with the left hand
 Cubans - right C-hand
independence - both S-hands crossed at wrist then twist and pull apart like breaking free

Math: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We sang through the song for metric measurement.  They had fun answering the questions. Continue to work with them at home and have fun answering the worksheet I gave you.

ScienceSong - CCC NoGreaterJoy
I used an illustration to identify the different parts of an atom.  It is included in your worksheets and I will email the illustration on my board to you. Again, this week's Memory work has a lot of new vocabulary.  work with them at home.

EnglishSong - CCC NoGreaterJoy
The irregular verb - write. The kids wrote their answers on the board.  The worksheet I gave you can be used for practice.  Thank you to Mrs. Reid for that worksheet.

Latin: Song - Opening Ceremony's Song
We continued with John 1:3a in Latin.  We did the hand motion while singing the song. Please refer to the previous post for the hand motions for all, things, through, him and made.  You can also come see me during the lunch hour to learn the hand motions.  So far, after last week, most of the kids are trying to learn the hand motions as well as the Latin words.

GeographySong - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We learned about the Great Lakes that has the acronym HOMESNF and they had a worksheet with them that we answered. I sang the geography song to them.  There was a back page that they can answer at home.

Science Experiment
We learned about buoyancy.  We had a wonderful time guessing the result. Try it with different solutions at home.

Presentation was really fun... I always love the funny stories and jokes.  Good Job everyone! Next time, recite a Bible verse or a poem.
  Review Game
I am so proud of everybody (parents included).  Congratulations on your hard work. Remember to have fun along the way.  Who knows, we might all go to Memory Masters (ha!ha!).

If anyone is interested, Middletown Library has a lecture on "10 Extremely Awesome Presidents" this Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 at 2pm.  This is the website if you want to learn more about it.  And since it is President's Day next Monday,  if you are interested in making lapbooks, visit this site for the resources. It looks really pretty.  This is in preparation for the end of the year memory work for Presidents.  Have a wonderful week off. Remember to keep working on your memory sentences. I will stop now because this is getting really long.
