Hello everyone. I would personally like to thank everyone for being so cooperative yesterday. It has been so amazing to have everyone so amenable with whatever we need to do. Thank you also to all the parents who were there for being so supportive. I really have the most awesome parents in my class. Thank you everyone. Nick, we miss you but we know you are having so much fun. Take lots of pictures.
Presentation was so much fun and very impressive. Thank you for all your preparation. We even have a bonus from Nate. Thank you, Nate. Next week's presentation - "Famous Person", choose a famous person and share how he/she impacted the world. Have fun learning.
Science Experiment with Mr. Herson is always fun. Thank you so much, Mr. Herson. Bubbles cling more to rough surfaces, correct? That was a fun experiment. But remember everyone, soda = sugar. so take it easy when drinking soda.
New Grammar
Timeline: Song - CC CD
We went over the timeline doing the hand motions taught during the opening ceremony.
History: Song - CC CD
I gave a brief summary of how immigrants passed through Ellis Island when they first landed in America. This is a good site to see Ellis Island virtually. We sang the song a couple of times doing the following hand motions:
From (date range) - palms together in front of one side of the body then one hand moves to the opposite side.
immigrants - right palms down flat hand moved diagonally under the left palms down flat hand as if entering.
America - fingers of both hands interlocked and move in a semi-circle from left to right in front of the body.
freedom - palms in S-hands crossed at wrists. Arms twist and pull apart as if breaking free.
opportunity - both hands on the side, start with O-hand and change to P-hand as it moves away from the body.
wealth - right hand opens up on top of left palms up flat hand
English: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We used shakers for the verb "shake". And everyone had fun shaking. Keep on working on the verbs at home. Just a quick note, make sure they are pronouncing the words accurately (especially those who are doing memory masters).
Math: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We started with Geometry today. I drew a rectangle on the board with all the grids in it and told them that when measuring the area we are counting all the little squares inside the rectangle. If you are only counting the outside lines, it is a perimeter. We repeated the song over and over and will add to the song next week for the other formulas.
Science: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We started to work on the first four elements. I made an illustration on the board showing the atomic number, symbol, element name and atomic mass (similar to how it would look like in the periodic table of element). I did mention that the atomic mass is rounded off to whole numbers. I will try to send the illustration via email if I can reproduce it.
Latin: Song - Opening Ceremony Song
We finished John 1:3. We were able to review from the beginning while doing our hand motions. The words today is without, Him, made, nothing. See previous post for hand motions or you can always come see me during the lunch hour.
Geography: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
I briefly mentioned the difference between a sound and a bay. I liked the song because the beginning of the song sort of defined the difference. Just a quick reminder for Geography review, some of the physical features are very challenging especially because we are using different maps. Work with them at home. My observation: they are a little bit confused with the Appalachian Mountains.
Fine Arts
We learned about Andrew Wyeth. I gave them a brief summary of his life. It seems like everyone had so much fun with the project. I am very impressed with everyone's work... the artist in everyone is coming out. Thank you Mrs. Thompson for doing the sample project for the children. Just a quick reminder, make sure you bring home your artwork. Next week, please bring your coloring materials - watercolors and crayons, if possible. Thank you.
Review Game
Congratulations everyone for answering all your questions correctly. I am very touched with the support they have for each other. Everyone is cheering for their classmate to give the answer correctly. Keep on reviewing.
