Thank you so much everyone for being flexible with the schedule change yesterday. Glad to see everyone this new year.
Presentation was really fun, even the parents are so involved. Thank you very much everyone for preparing well. Next week, narrate a story ( a bible story or any story you like). Make sure you are using your own words in narrating the story. Feel free to bring props or anything to enhance your storytelling. Have fun!
Science Experiment with Mr. Herson is back. Thank you so much Mr. Herson! While Mr. Herson was demonstrating the experiment, it reminded me of this video. I hope you'll find this inspirational.
New Grammar
Timeline: Song - CC CD
We now are in the Age of Exploration...We went through the song a lot of times while doing the hand motions. We even played arranged the timeline in order. Keep on practicing the Timeline... this is the part where a lot of kids get confused.
History: Song - CC CD
Our story continues after the Civil War ended. I briefly discussed the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment. We sang through the sentence a lot of times and did the following hand motion:
14th - four-hand palm up, bend fingers toward the body twice.
slave - wrist of palm-down right S-hand rests on wrist of palm-down left S-hand
U.S. citizens - right hand on your heart
paved - two flat palm facing each other and move as if marking out a path
Civil Rights Movement - right palm flat hand slides across left palm-up hand
If you want to read more about the 14th amendment in non-technical English, this is a good site.
Science: CCC NoGreaterJoy
I am actually surprise why we started with atomic number if we don't even know the atoms and its parts. Anyway, I briefly explained what atoms are and what some parts of the atom are. We sang through the sentence a lot of times and did the following hand motions:
proton - use right and left finger to form a "plus" sign in front of your chest
nucleus - use right arm to draw a big circle around your chest
electron - use right arm to draw a big circle around your body
neutral - right thumb under two fingers (index & middle) and move side to side twice
The sentence is a bit long and maybe really new to the kids so please work with them at home. If you want to learn more about atoms, this is a good video clip. The handouts I gave you have fun things for the kids to get used to using the Periodic Table of Elements. Have lots of fun!
Math: CCC NoGreaterJoy
I drew a gallon robot on the board that is similar to the picture below. We sang through the song a couple of times and had fun answering questions. If you have the different sizes of containers at home, let them play with pouring cups to pints to quarts and so on. This would be a very good activity for visual and kinesthetic learner. Have fun with the handouts of the liquid measurements.
English: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy
We continue with irregular verbs and today we learned "beat".
Latin: Song - Opening Ceremony's Song
We finished John 1:1 today and while singing the song, we did the sign language of the passage. See previous post for the hand motions of the words we learned - verbum, erat, apud, Deum/Deo.
Geography: CCC NoGreaterJoy
We went through the Western Mountains and went over the place a few times. Keep on working with them at home as this can be challenging if we continue to add more information.
Fine Arts
We started the Great Artists study with Grandma Moses. I told them how I was so encouraged when I read about Grandma Moses, even if you are well advance in years, you can still learn new things. Isn't learning fun? Next week, please continue to bring your coloring materials for Fine Arts. Thank You!
Below are the youtube videos I found for the second semester of CC. here are the sites
Science Week 13-24 Please take note that I am not using the songs for Week 21 and 22 on this video.. I am a certified AJT (NoGreaterJoy) fan.
Math Week 14 - 24 Please take note that I am not using the songs for Week 14 and 15 on this video for the same reason stated above.
Geography Week 11-24
English Week 13 - 24 Please take note that I am not using the songs for Week 13 - 17 on this video for the same reason stated above.
Review Game ... bowling! I want to try and play with them sometime... Thank you so much to all the parents who helped during the game. My observation - the kids are doing really well. Keep on practicing your memory work. I am concerned about the pronunciation of pharynx and larynx, the kids (a lot of them) are having issues with the pronunciation. Please make sure, they are practicing the right pronunciation; because no matter how well they practice the memory work, if they are practicing incorrectly, they will be incorrect.
