Week 15

It was a wonderful morning for everyone. I am just so proud of the kids and their teachers (yes, that is you!). Thank you very much for all the hard work you are doing with the kids and the encouragement you've been giving them. I am encouraged to be with them every week.

We started with Fine Arts. We learned about Thomas Gainsborough, and we painted a landscape.  Their pictures were really good. It took longer than the time allotted for us, but thanks to Mr. Reeser for giving us a little bit of his time. Most of them finished their landscape pictures, I told them to draw people in a different paper and cut it out and use their landscape drawings as backdrop for their scene.  If you want to learn more about Gainsborough, check this site out. Next week, we will be focusing on Monet and I've decide to do it in our own class... please bring paintbrushes (if they have different sizes, that would be great, if not even just one paintbrush is good), I will take care of the paint and other supplies.

Science with Mr. Reeser was related to one of our previous experiment with sound (wine glass harp).  We learned today that the more fluids in the bottle makes the sound lower. Check out the previous post on the glass harp and take a closer look on what particular glass makes a lower sound.  If you want to replicate the experiment, check this site out. Do you think a bigger glass with lesser water will make a lower or higher sound than a smaller glass with more water? Try it out! Let me know what result you got.  Have fun!

Presentation was informative.  The kids expounded more on what they know (on a particular Timeline card) about History.  I am very impressed with the details they shared with most of them using a KWO.  Congratulations! Job well done teachers! Next Week's Presentation - Science: Tell us about outer space - planets, sun, moon, stars, solar systems, comets space program. I did tell them I am open to topics on whatever science they are doing, physics is fine, too.

New Grammar
Since new grammar and review is back to back we incorporated review as we learn our new grammar. We were able to review English, Science, History, Latin (Week 1-15) and Geography (all of Europe that we already covered) The kids were wonderful... seems like everybody is preparing for memory masters.  Keep up the good work.

English: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy5
The kids knows the four purpose of sentences really well.  I asked them to construct the different purpose of sentences and they did great.  Keep on reviewing Chart A.

History: Song - CC CD
We had a wonderful discussion on World War I, the kids shared a lot of information they know about the war. Thank you so much for helping them prepare for the discussion.  It is very encouraging for me. If you want to read more, you can go to this or this site.

ScienceSong - CCC NoGreaterJoy5
The drawing I had on the board was a roller coaster, which I think explains kinetic and potential energy well.  We briefly discussed the difference between kinetic - active energy and potential - stored energy. If you want to read more, check this and this out.  This is a good site if you want to do experiments on kinetic and potential energy.  Have fun!

Latin: Song - CC CD
The kids know the material by heart.  We focused on "To be" imperfect active indicative. The kids are struggling through the "to be" active indicative, but I trust they will know all of this by the end of the year.  We have only cover the first two - present and imperfect, so they have plenty of time to work on them. Good Job!

Geography: Song - CCC NoGreaterJoy5
The Middle East - it is interesting that we are studying this part of geography when it has been on the news a lot especially this past weekend - current events with geography. Please note that more review is needed for Geography.

MathSong - CCC NoGreaterJoy5
Metric measurement, the kids can recite this in their sleep. So, I took it a notch up by letting them apply what they are learning.  We did a little bit of conversions.  It was a little bit challenging for some of them, but they are in the dialectic stage, and it is nice for them to understand what they already know.  Keep practicing!  In the next few weeks, we will be learning Geometry.  Expect more applications for Math!

Timeline: Song - CC CD
We were unable to get through the Timeline, but we will next week.  Good thing we do it every morning during the opening ceremony.

Please continue on memorizing Ephesians 6 with the kids... this is our class goal.  So far, they are doing great.  The challenge will come in when we finish the armor of God, so please start working with them now, if they don't know it yet.

Thank you very much for all you do. It has been an amazing journey working along side you to expect great things from your kids. Let us keep on and finish strong.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me anytime.  Again, thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Zabrina
