We are counting down the days... Congratulations everyone for getting where we are with flying colors.
Thank you Mrs. Kershner for introducing us to Mr. Tchaikovsky. If you want to learn more about our composer for the week, you can visit this or this site. This is a fun site, too. I've also attached a biography and worksheet in your packet.
Presentation was fun. Some of you even sang the hymn/song. Congratulations! Next week's presentation is Exposition: Historical Event from the Timeline. Using a history timeline card or other resources, expose the truth about the event from the History Timeline.
Science with Mr. Herson was fun... what are the odds? Thank you for teaching us the odds of coin tossing.

I briefly told them what happened during 9/11. They have a lot of questions and I am very happy because I can actually see them thinking through the things that I am saying. It is awesome even if I don't have all the answer to their questions. We sang through the song while doing the following hand motion:
Sept. 11 - first arm is held up (elbows bent, palms facing in)
2001 - second arm is held up (elbows bent, palms facing in, held shoulder width apart from the other arm)
World Trade Center - each arm fall one at a time while fingers are wiggling
destroyed - both hands in front of body, palms facing each other and then separate while making fists
Muslim - (same as Islam) two fingers on the right hand bent on the open palm left hand
terrorists - (terror) both F-hand cross each other, flick the thumb and index finger and both hands end up in front of body with palms facing out (people) both hand in front of body palms facing each other
America - fingers on both hands are interlocked and move in a semi-circle from left to right in front of the body
war - curve hands move from side to side
terrorism - (terror) both F-hand cross each other, flick the thumb and index finger and both hands end up in front of body with palms facing out (action; same as do) both curve hands facing down move from side to side

I told the kids that we are comparing what we learned last time uniformitarianism and this week's catastrophism. If you want to learn more about the difference, this is a good site. Or you can check this site. We sang through the song a lot and did some hand motions. If you want to know the hand motions, come see me. When Dawn and I are trying to memorize all these theories, I keep reminding her that these are just theories (idea, speculation or supposition). People may choose to believe them or not.

The commutative property of addition and multiplication is easy for them to understand and I tried to confuse them a little bit when we reviewed the associative property and they were confusing the songs. I told them just remember associative property has the word associate thus the parenthesis. Have fun with the worksheets.

We continued with the other type of clause this week. We reviewed the independent clause before going into the subordinate clause. I also went over the difference between the phrase and clause just so we are in context. I hope you find the worksheets helpful and fun.

Latin: Song - Opening Ceremony Song
We continued with John 1:7 and the hand motions we used are this, came, in and witness. We are nearing the end and I am really excited to put all the signs together. Have fun practicing the verse in Latin, English and Sign Language. Imagine learning John 1:1-7 in three languages!

We learned about the deserts this week and please take note because it can be very tricky. Colorado Desert is not in Colorado. It is in the end of the Colorado River in California. And the Painted Desert include both part like an artist's palette (I kept saying artist's easel when it should be palette...blooper...hahaha). Just a good reminder because the hole part is the hole of the palette.

Review Game was short but it was fun... Thank you Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Herson for being our bridge. Congratulations everyone for getting all your answer. For next week's review game, I might need at least 4 parents (would love to have more if possible)... let me know if you are available. I am thinking since it is the last review game (Week 24 is the auction), I am doing a train ticket game where each child has a train ticket with different subject (each parent will be assigned a subject to test the kids), every question they are able to answer in a given time (I am still thinking about the time limit), they get a hole punch on their train ticket. However many hole punch they get is how many tickets they earn. This is in preparation for memory masters and subject stars. Let me know your thoughts.
