Hello!!! We are back (to reality)! Monday was a really funny morning (I should have shared that in presentation) for us... dead phone, driving without a license, no money except a few coins and pressed for time... what an exciting morning yet we saw how God was in full control of our lives (even better, Dawn saw first hand how sovereign God is).
Presentation was fun and light. It was fun to see the kids enjoy the time while doing their presentation. And the focus yesterday is maintaining eye contact. Next week's presentation... share a Bible passage or poem. And we will be focus on speaking with appropriate loudness so the audience can hear you. Have fun practicing in front of a mirror!
Science Experiment is "Fingerprints." We had fun looking at our fingerprints and saw how amazing God created each of us. We are uniquely created with LOVE! Aren't we? If they want to read more on fingerprinting, you can click this link.
New Grammar
History: Song - CC CD
We sang through the song plenty of times while doing the following hand motions:
Mohawk (sign of Native American) - right F-hand touches right side of lips and traces a line to the right side of the eye.
tea - right F-hand makes a circle over the left O-hand (like stirring tea from a teacup).
East India Company (sign for ship) - right 3-hand with little fingers resting on left palm-up flat hand. Then moves forward while sailing.
Boston - right B-hand moves in front of the body from left shoulder to right shoulder and then to the right hip (like forming a number 7 in front of the body).
Timeline: Song - CC CD
We sang through the song and did the hand motions taught during the opening ceremony.
Science: Song - NoGreaterJoy
I gave a very brief explanation of the difference between the different kinds of muscles and showed them pictures of the muscles. We sand through the song witht the following hand motions:
skeletal - march in place
smooth - rub your tummy
cardiac - make a heart on the left side of the chest
English: Song - NoGreaterJoy
We chant through the song several times while doing the actions. It seems like the kids are mixing up the definition between present participle and past participle... please work on that at home. Actions are as follows:
verb - run in place
"ed" - sign for letter "E" and "D"
adjective - stomp the left foot
verb - run in place
Math: Song - CC CD
We skip counted the 5's and 6's. Some of them are still stumbling through the 6's. Maybe they just need practice.
Latin: Song - NoGreaterJoy
We sang through the song while doing the following hand motions:
hic, hoc - right pointer finger points to the left open palm hand
ipso, ipsum - two palms open hand to the left side of body
cui - right X-hand then turn to S-hand
quod - right Y-hand point forward
eam - point to an inanimate object
illum - point to a boy/man
Geography: Song - CC CD
Trace, point and say the five state and their capital. They get a little confused with Charleston and Columbia, please work on that at home.
Fine Arts
We learned upside drawing and why it is important, the picture I chose is related to our History memory work. It is a little bit challenging and they sort of want to finish it that day, so they sort of rushed through it. I was trying to tell them to do one box (grid) at a time. We want them to learn to draw shapes and lines instead of what they thought they see. If you want the file of the picture upside down with the grid, let me know and I will send it to you. Remember to keep all their art work so we can pick their best one for the Christmas program. If you want to read more on upside down drawing, this is a very good site.
Review Game
The review game was pick up sticks - they get to pick a stick with specific questions... if they answered it correctly, they get a ticket. We have a simple raffle draw every week for the tickets they got for the day. Please make sure they keep all the tickets for an end of the year auction. And if they are going for memory masters (which I encourage them to do), please make sure you are reviewing all their memory work as early as now (even for the weeks that they are not present in class). Have fun!
Here are some of my book recommendations for the week...
Boston Tea Party by Trudi Trueit
You Wouldn't Want to be at the Boston Tea Party by Peter Cook
Boston Tea Party by Pamela Edwards (for younger kids)
The Boston Tea Party by Cynthia Klingel (Level 3 Reader)
Your Muscles by Anne Ylvisaker
Multiplying by Ann Montague-Smith (for fun games)
I am so sorry it took me till today to do this posting, it has been a challenged adjusting back to reality (hahaha). Have a wonderful rest of the week! Don't forget, tomorrow, Sept 27, is Museum Day Live! You get to go to certain museums in our area for free. Here is the link for the museums in PA... We are thinking of going to Penn Museum (if I can find someone to cover my call). Enjoy!
